Being moved to Mtech after Zappie? A few things worth checking first.
Since Zappie Communications Ltd entered liquidation, some businesses have told us they have been contacted about moving their services to Mtech Communications. If that has happened to you, it is worth taking a moment to understand exactly where you stand before you sign anything new. There is no obligation for you to sign a new agreement, and taking independent advice first costs you nothing.
Who are Mtech Communications?
Mtech Communications Ltd (Company Reg: 11194386) is an established UK telecoms provider that has traded since 2018, offering cloud phone systems, broadband and business mobile to companies across the UK.
Unlike a newly formed company, Mtech has several years of trading history behind it. That is worth knowing, and it is a fair point in their favour.
It does not change the basic advice, though: moving to any new provider means signing a new contract, so it is sensible to understand exactly what you are agreeing to before you commit.
Who are Zappie Networks and Zappie Comms?
There are two separate Zappie companies, and it helps to be clear about which is which
- Zappie Communications Ltd (Company Reg: 14499048) is the sales entity. Liquidators have been appointed and the company has entered a formal insolvency process (creditors’ voluntary liquidation). This has been recorded in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record for insolvency proceedings. View the official Gazette notice
- Zappie Network Services Ltd (Company Reg: 14475889) is the network operator. It is a separate legal entity and remains operational.
So the company that has entered liquidation is the sales business, Zappie Communications Ltd. If your services were sold or managed through that entity, it is worth checking where your contracts, phone numbers and connectivity actually sit today.
Contracts being transferred
When a provider enters an insolvency process and its customers are asked to re-sign with another company, it is worth pausing before you commit.
Signing a fresh telecoms contract could tie your business into a multi-year agreement before you have had the chance to review your options. Contracts held with the original company do not always transfer automatically, which means your phone numbers, broadband and mobile services could be affected if the changeover is not handled carefully.
Before signing anything, we would suggest:
- Checking who your current agreements are actually held with
- Confirming your business numbers and connectivity are protected
- Understanding the length and terms of any new agreement you are being asked to sign
- Watching for any separate finance or lease agreement bundled alongside the service contract, as these can run longer than the service itself
- Taking independent advice if you are unsure
A short review now can save a great deal of disruption later.
What a former Zappie customer told us
“Zappie did nothing but over charge, underdeliver, and hide layers of additional elements that ended up costing me a fortune through a leasing company.
James and Best4Business are the complete opposite. They approached me with a genuine desire to support and provide answers to questions that I had after Zappie Communications liquidated.
I wasn’t sold a dream, I wasn’t pressured to sign paperwork, and they cared more about my business and the impact that these events had and helped me find my way through it.
It’s good to know that there are some who still do right by people. Cannot recommend them enough.”
